Lesson
Personality & Work Styles
Summary
A six-figure salary means nothing if the job makes you miserable every single day. This lesson helps students uncover their natural work style and test it against the career paths they've already started exploring.
Bellringer: Pick Your Perfect Workday
- Display the four work-environment options and have students silently choose one.
- Students jot down their letter choice and one reason it appeals to them.
Instruction
- Reveal the four work style categories tied to each bellringer option.
- Walk through hard skills vs. work style, the four primary work styles, and environment/culture fit factors.
- Reinforce that every style is valuable — mismatched environments cause burnout, not the styles themselves.
Activity: Personality & Work Style Inventory
- Students complete a 12-question self-assessment to identify their primary and secondary work styles.
- Students cross-reference results against their top two target careers from prior lessons to flag strong matches or potential conflicts.
Discussion: Matches, Mismatches, and Pivots
- Poll students on whether their result was a surprise or a confirmation; invite volunteers to share.
- Discuss any "potential conflict" results and reframe mismatches as useful information, not failure.
- Explore how different work styles can thrive within the same industry through different sub-roles.
Wrap-Up & Assessment
- What is your primary work style/personality type?
- Does your top target career fit your work style? Why or why not?
